About Andy Spencer

I've lived in Ann Arbor for about ten years, and my children attended AAPS. I've seen the district's strengths up close — and the areas that need work, especially budget pressures, teacher dissatisfaction, and the need for a Board that can handle finances and teacher contracts.

My parents were both career Michigan public school educators, and so is my brother. Together, my family has spent 140 years in Michigan public schools. My two sons attended AAPS, and a family member is a physician in the University of Michigan's Department of Pediatrics.

Public schools matter to me — and to our democracy.

I work as a scientist focused on discovering new medicines for diseases with few or inadequate treatments. I've served on the executive teams of multiple life science companies and on the Finance and Audit Committee of the Endocrine Society.

I've volunteered in AAPS, coached freshman basketball at Skyline, and been involved with athletic boosters and multiple athletic teams.

The Board sets the direction for spending, teacher support, and family engagement. I want a more transparent, accountable Board focused on students and families — and I'll represent the whole district, not one corner of it.
